Dec 11-18, 2018 New instrumentation and a newer data logger were installed on the ANLMET tower. Some missing data will be seen during that period. The cup anemometers and wind vanes were replaced by heated sonic anemometers. The 10m HMP45A T/RH probe was replaced by a HMP155 T/RH probe. The CR7X data logger was replaced with a CR23X data logger and AM416 multiplexer. The ANLMET program was modified for the new instrumentation.

March 3, 2009 the ANLMET data system is back online at 13:30 CST after an extended outage starting 2/26/09 at 17:45 CST.
October 3, 2008 the reporting of Wet Bulb Globe Temperature was added to the anltower.now file linked to "Most recent 15 minute average". In this instance, WBGT is estimated using a method developed by ANL using standard meteorological variables. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
September 25,2008 network fiber to Bldg 484 has finally been repaired after about nine days. The ANLMET data flow to this website is thus restored.
February 1, 2008 we started presenting daily maxima and minima for selected sensors. See Current Argonne Data above. In addition, these daily maxima and minima data are available for each year back through 1997 in files named max1997.txt or similar in the ANLMET/numeric data directory. We also added a Degrees F/C and meters-per-second/miles-per-hour converter in a popup window.
January 2008 we started computing STAR wind speed/direction statistics from 10m as well as the previously produced 60m wind data. These data are in the relevant "text" directories for each year back through 1989. The STAR data format is explained in Readme.star at the top of the "text" directory as well. Wind rose plots for both heights are also available as PDF files.
On February 2, 2007 we reprocessed Feb 2003 thru Dec 2006 data to remove a small but varying positive offset to the global radiation data. This primarily affected the calculation and assignment of Pasquill stability classes during night-time periods. During the evening of January 19, 2007 the source of the global radiation offset was found and eliminated from the data acquisition system. Future data will not require the removal of a global radiation offset. On Feb 2, 2007 we also fixed a problem with how night-time Pasquill stability classes were assigned. Files involving Pasquill stability class data from 1989 to present were regenerated.
On January 17, 2007 we fixed a bug in the "archdata" program that produces the numeric monyrmet.data files. The daily average global radiation was reporting the average for the 2330 hour rather than the full-day average. "Numeric" data files monyrmet.data from Jan 1989 through Dec 2006 were affected and have been corrected.
On January 1, 2007 we started posting our monyrmet.dat files which contain 15-minute, hourly and daily averaged data. These files are useful for those who wish to have access to finer time-scale 15 minute averages. The files and a format description can be found in the numeric 15Minute data directory
On October 19, 2004 we fixed a long-standing data link problem. The data flow is now much more reliable and clean. Henceforth, few 15min data gaps should be occuring. In addition, data collection takes place on an OS-9 system at Bldg 484 directly.
On August 25, 2004 we added a web link to the U.S. Geological Survey Water Resources Data for Illinois page that contains processed ANLMET data from 1948 to the current last year. See the bottom of this page for more information.
On August 13, 2004 we added many PDF and TIF file images of pages of met data from earlier years. These include the 671 page "ANL-7084 Fifteen-Year Climatological Summary" for 1950 thru 1964 and daily summary data for December 1970 thru September 1981. These are available via the link to "OLD ANL met data" at the bottom of this page. OCR scanning of these pages was quite poor so only the page images are included on this web site at this time.
On February 4, 2004 we reprocessed the data for August 2003 thru Dec 2003. The RH data and derived dewpoint and vapor pressure values were incorrect. The RH, dewpoint and vapor pressure for this period has now been corrected and data files on this web site replaced with corrected files. In addition, a small adjustment to barometric pressure was applied.
On January 19, 2004 we reprocessed the data for August 2002 thru July 2003. Previously, much of the temperature data were indicated as missing in the numeric data files but in fact were available and are now included in the reprocessed data. In addition, files from Aug 2003 thru Nov 2003 were removed due to errors found in the moisture data (RH, dew point, and vapor pressure). These data will be corrected shortly and data files restored to the web site.
On December 9, 2003, we reprocessed the data for October 1998 making corrections to temperature data at 10m and 60m heights.
On November 13, 2003, we added reporting of 10m temperature, RH, and 60m wind speed and direction at five-minute intervals for use by ANL emergency response people.
READ THE FOLLOWING FOR AN UPDATE INVOLVING OUR PASQUILL STABILITY CLASS DATA AND OUR GLOBAL AND NET RADIATION DATA FROM THE "NUMERIC" ARCHIVE SINCE 1989.
PLEASE NOTE: On March 4, 2002. we reposted ALL of our archived met data back to the start of 1989. In late January 2002 we discovered that the *.data files since 1989 in the "NUMERIC" archive were reporting global and net radiation values in cal/cm**2/min rather than Watts/m**2. The data format description stated we were reporting in Watts/m**2 but in fact the values were reported as cal/cm**2/min. All of the affected data have now been corrected and reposted. In addition, we chose to unify over this time period the method used for reporting Pasquill stability class. Previously, data from prior to 1997 reported Pasquill stability class based on the temperature difference between the 10 and 60m heights. Now all of the data from 1989 to present employs a different method for Pasquill stability class. The new method involves global solar radiation during dayatime hours and the 10m sigma wind direction during night-time hours. This new method for Pasquill stability class affects only the reported Pasquill stability class data in the "TEXT" *.sum files and the "NUMERIC" *.data files.
IN ADDITION: As a result of this reprocessing, "TEXT" data from 1989 to 1992 have been added that were not previously availiable. Also the "NUMERIC" *.data files are now organized as one record per hour with space delimited fields. This format is better suited for reading directly into spreadsheet applications, etc.
IN ADDITION: This reprocessing was initially performed on Feb. 1, 2002, but a processing error at that time resulted in the ends of data sets being truncated off several hours early. If you downloaded text/*.sum or numeric/*.data files between Feb. 1 and Mar. 4 of this year you should get those files again, so you have non-truncated files.
IN SUMMARY, you DO NOT need to retrieve updated files unless you use the Pasquill stability class data, you use "NUMERIC" net or global radiation, or you desire "TEXT" data from 1989 - 1992.
